07 Dominican Republic

In the 1960's, Mark Mann's grandfather, Judge Roy Hofheinz, who was the founder of the Houston Astros Baseball Club, made inroads into the Dominican Republic that were way ahead of their time. With the help of legendary baseball scout Epy Guerrero,  Hofheinz imported talented baseball players such as Cesar Cedeño, and others to play for the National League Club.
With the help of Mr. Guerrero, Mann and the Summit Institute have been able to give back to the Dominican Sports Landscape, and more importantly, to the Dominican People.
When Mann was in the Dominican Republic with former ORU Women's Basketball Coach Jerry Finkbeiner, in 2010,  he was able to reconnect with Mr. Guerrero, and make important contacts with leaders of community youth sport programs on the island.

In 2014, we will be taking a trip to the Dominican Republic from May 12- May 19th, 2014. The cost of the trip is $1350 plus airfare. This year we will be working in Baní, in the state of Peravia with 35 schools giving them sports equipment and conducting coaching clinics throughout the week. We will also be working on the 2014 building project in Baní. At the end of the trip there will also be a day and a half of R&R in Cabarete, D.R..
If your group is interested in going to the D.R. with us in 2014, let us know as soon as possible!

In 2013, we assisted the Altagracia Zapata foundation in the Dominican Republic with a
home building project involving community leaders in Bani, Peravia, D.R..
We also
took a group of TWU students and conducted 9 coaching/sport clinics for youth and their coaches in May of 2013.

For 2011, we would like to thank our supporters. We especially want to thank the Dene Anton Foundation for supporting the 2011 home building project in the D.R..
To our other supporters
acknowledged on this site, thanks so much!
